What Ooshybooshy is

Ornamental art, taught by the artist who draws it

Ooshybooshy is Anjali Singh's studio in Lucknow, India. She draws acanthus, florals and ornament almost entirely in monochrome pen and ink, and paints some of it in watercolour. She has been selling work online since 2021 and teaching courses here since 2022, and everything she teaches comes out of her own practice rather than a syllabus she was handed.

There are 24 recorded courses on the site, 93 lessons and more than 50 hours of video, running from first pen strokes through acanthus construction, scrolls, shading, colour and finished ornamental compositions. A single course costs between ₹999 and ₹5,700 in India, or $29 to $99 elsewhere, paid once and kept for good.

The OB Art Circle is the membership: ₹1,100 a month in India, $19 a month elsewhere. It opens 18 of those courses, and adds two live sessions a month and a private community where Anjali looks at work in progress. Six months costs 10 per cent less and twelve months 20 per cent less. She also teaches live workshops, and private 30 minute sessions at ₹1,999 in India, or $21 elsewhere.

It is for anyone who wants to draw ornament properly: beginners who have never held a dip pen, and confident artists whose leaves keep coming out stiff and symmetrical. Patience matters more here than talent. If you would rather see how she teaches before paying for anything, the journal is full of step by step tutorials, free to read.

Anjali is an in-depth teacher, fully prepared to demonstrate her mastery in ornamental art, and her course suits all skill levels. My biggest takeaway was learning to sketch curved lines with confidence.
